Get Involved
The Ozark Natural Science Center is a place where kids experience hands-on learning every single day. However, there are plenty of ways for adults to get involved, as well! Be sure to become an ONSC member and get involved in some of these opportunities or attend an event or program!
Join the ONSC Corps
Our volunteer organization, the ONSC Corps, is a strong group of ambassadors for our organization. The group exists to provide an outlet for service, opportunities to align specific skills with specific needs and a deeper connection between members and the Center. The Corps is volunteer-driven by Chairman Candice Haines of CCF Brands and ONSC Teacher Naturalist/Outreach Coordinator Naïma Montacer.
Meetings are held regularly throughout the year, and the group organizes events throughout the community. Past efforts include staffing ONSC booths at events such as the NWA Green Expo and reading The Lorax to school children at the local library. Members are currently working with the Illinois River Watershed Partnership to organize a geocacheing event on Earth Day and support the ONSC Terracycle project (learn more below).
To learn more about ONSC Corps or read recent meeting recaps, visit the group on Facebook or email corps@onsc.us.
Use GoodSearch
GoodSearch is a search engine powered by Yahoo. ONSC earns revenue (about a penny per search) every single time you use it for an online search – think how many things you search for daily! It takes about 30 seconds to download the toolbar, which hides subtly at the top of your browser. It’s easy to get used to using GoodSearch, and it can be a huge benefit to ONSC. Please consider downloading the toolbar at both work and home if appropriate, and share the link with friends and other supporters! Here’s more information on GoodSearch, if you’re interested in learning more – it’s a great concept for social good.
There’s also a GoodShop tool for online purchases, and ONSC can earn a percentage of your total purchase. The site will subtly notify you of coupons, shipping deals, and the percent ONSC is eligible to receive. In case you’re wondering, GoodSearch earns its revenue from advertising, which can be quite high as usage increases. Please help us spread the word to benefit ONSC!
Incidentally, if 100 people use this, we could earn around $1,000 this year… and if 1,000 people used it (we have 1,200+ fans of ONSC on Facebook alone), we could earn more than $8,000 annually!
Participate in a Work Day
Our members often join us on scheduled work days throughout the year and during Member Weekend to work alongside our staff and board members on projects such as painting, sealing bridges, clearing trails and other special projects. Donated supplies are often needed for work days – check our needs list to see if you or your company can help!
Terracycle: Help ONSC Earn Cash Through Trash!
Terracycle is an upcycling program that takes normally non-recyclable items and turns them into new products or otherwise recycles them. ONSC can receive between .02 cents and $2.50 per item collected. Review this fun and detailed ONSC Terracycle Flyer to learn about items collected, and let us know if you would like to join our brigade to collect items. Perhaps you even own or know of a business that might allow us to set up a collection location! Learn more at www.terracycle.net or by contacting ONSC Teacher Naturalist Naïma Montacer.
