About the Event

About the Event:

On Friday, October 15, 2021, from 8 -10 am, ONSC will host a guided bird walk. At this time of year, migrating birds are heading south. The view from Wishing Rock offers chances of seeing vultures and hawks, even Bald Eagles. Tiny warblers may be found in the woods. Who knows what we may see? Keep your fingers crossed and your eyes open!

$10 per person. Children over the age of 6 are welcome. The hike is about 2 miles, and will take approximately 2 hours.  Bring binoculars, water, snacks, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.

About the Instructor:

Dr. Joanie Patterson is the Senior Teacher Naturalist at ONSC, and our ornithologist on staff. Dr. Joanie has a deep concern for the environment, which led her to obtain a PhD (U of A, Fayetteville) to work toward solutions that protect wild areas. At ONSC, Joanie connects children with nature and inspires them to consider the effect of their choices on the environment. Previously, she was a Visiting Professor at U of A, Ft. Smith, and was part of the team searching for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. She is VP of the NWA Audubon Society. She enjoys birdwatching, playing guitar, and gardening.
