Tom's Trail for Everybody
Tom Edmiston Memorial Trail
Dedicated August 20, 2022
About the Trail
Since 1990, Ozark Natural Science Center (ONSC) has provided local students with hands-on, science-based learning experiences that enhance their understanding of the natural world and the impacts they have on it. We also provide workshops and classes for adults and families.
Most of the science education that we provide takes place on the 8 miles of hiking trails surrounding our campus. As we are located in the hills of Bear Hollow, most of our trails have steep or rocky portions that are difficult to traverse for individuals with varying abilities or individuals who experience disabilities.

To make our lessons more available to any body, ONSC created an accessible trail that connects the main parking lot with the wooded habitat of the observation deck, the meadow habitat of the recreation field, a simulated wetland, and the pond.
By creating the accessible trail that is connected to the main parking lot, we provide an area that is safe and accessible for those who need a less steep and rocky hike. The trail includes diverse ecosystems to maximize the connection with nature, and allows us to provide a full experience of education opportunities along the trail.
Educational Signs
When you visit Tom's Trail for Everybody, you will discover a series of educational signs. These signs provide an informative self-guided hike along our trail, and can be visited in any order. We are grateful to Beaver Water District for sponsoring the sign project!
About Tom
Tom Edmiston was a kind and generous man with a quick wit and a laugh-out-loud sense of humor. He gave generously to the community and made friends everywhere he went.
As a member of the ONSC Board of Directors, Tom served as the chair of the Facilities and Land Committee, during which time he worked on the campus maintenance plan, parking lot expansion, fundraising, trail work, and many other projects. Tom is remembered for his kindness and humor, his regular neighborly check-ins, and the ever-present twinkle in his eye.
We are grateful to the following donors who made this trail possible: Arkansas Environmental Education Association, Ozark Society Foundation, Garver Gives, and private donors.
